Dementia Care

The top floor at Kentmere Rehabilitation and Skilled Care is dedicated to providing expanded services and care for residents with Alzheimer’s or related dementias in a warm, home-like and secure environment that includes a rooftop sunroom, its own dining room and a community center featuring a large fish tank.

Kentmere is a leader in staff training in Montessori for Dementia and Aging, an innovative approach to dementia care that supports older adults and people living with dementia by creating a prepared environment filled with cues and memory supports where individuals can care for themselves, others and their community.

We strive to develop an environment that treats individuals with respect and dignity and honors their choices so that they may live as independently as possible.

We believe all older adults and persons with dementia have the right to a caring community that is aligned with their individual needs, interests, abilities, skills and strengths for optimal social, emotional, physical and cognitive support. This environment is carefully prepared to meet and nurture the needs of each person, providing opportunities for success, choice, enhanced independence and self-initiated activity. We enrich the lives of our residents through their engagement in roles, routines and activities, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being.

Our team – from our administrators to our housekeeping staff – is trained in Montessori for Dementia and Aging, which supports improving the quality of life for seniors with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia by promoting the principles of dignity, meaningful engagement and independence throughout life. Because these diseases affect not only our residents but their entire family, we offer a variety of supportive services to ease the transition to long-term care.
