WILMINGTON, Del. October 16, 2026- Leslie Johnson, executive director of Kentmere Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Wilmington, Delaware, has graduated from the Future Leaders Program offered by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL).

With more than 17 years of experience in senior living, including more than 14 in leadership and management, Johnson has built a career grounded in compassion, innovation and a commitment to improving the lives of older adults. Nominated by the Delaware Health Care Facilities Association (DHCFA), she was selected for the yearlong program in recognition of her leadership potential and dedication to advancing long term care.

Preparing the Next Generation of Leaders

Now in its 20th year, the Future Leaders Program provides professional development, education and opportunities to exchange ideas with industry peers. The program prepares participants to take on leadership roles and represent the interests of long-term care providers at the state and national levels.

“I’m incredibly proud to have graduated from the AHCA/NCAL Future Leaders Program, and I’m grateful to DHCFA for nominating me for this opportunity,” said Johnson. “The program was a valuable experience that challenged me to think more broadly about leadership, learn from other professionals who share a commitment to long term care, and explore new ways to make a positive impact on the lives of residents and the teams who care for them. I’m excited to put what I’ve learned into practice and continue contributing to the future of our profession.”

A Career Rooted in Improving Lives

Johnson began her career with a degree in dietetics and worked as a registered dietitian in a large health care system. There, she saw firsthand how nutrition can support disease management, prevention and quality of life. Wanting to broaden her impact, she pursued additional credentials to become a licensed nursing home administrator and went on to serve in several senior living communities, developing expertise in resident care, operations and organizational leadership.

Throughout her executive leadership career, Johnson has demonstrated an ability to strengthen organizational culture, improve quality outcomes, and drive operational and financial performance. Her accomplishments include increased occupancy, improved financial results, stronger regulatory compliance and the development of high performing teams. As executive director of Kentmere Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing, she continues to champion innovation, explore advanced care technologies, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. Her leadership philosophy centers on empowering employees and balancing operational excellence with compassionate, person-centered care.

Making a Difference Beyond Kentmere

Beyond her responsibilities at Kentmere, Johnson serves on the DHCFA board of directors, participating in legislative advocacy and policy discussions aimed at strengthening long term care throughout Delaware. This work gives her another opportunity to contribute to issues affecting providers, caregivers and the older adults they serve.

Johnson’s graduation marks a significant achievement in a career shaped by continuous learning and a desire to make a difference. Through her work at Kentmere and her involvement with DHCFA, she continues to build on that commitment while helping advance the future of long-term care.
